According to Decree No. 51-445 of April 16, 1951, scholarship students must be diligent, whether in courses, TP or TD. They are also required to complete mandatory internships as part of their training. These are some of the conditions to be respected to guarantee the continuation of the scholarship. ToggleWhat are the attendance conditions for the scholarship?
You have obtained a Crous purse ? This is a good thing. However, know that this is not the end goal, because you are only at the beginning of your student journey. In fact, this financial aid based on social criteria is designed to give you a helping hand. Therefore, in order not to lose it, it is advisable to take note of the scholarship attendance conditions. They apply to students taking face-to-face or distance learning courses. Generally speaking, learners must:
- Complete their educational registration each semester following the procedure established by the training establishment. The objective is to indicate the student’s choice of course (as well as optional subjects if necessary), allowing them to define their project.
- Attend lectures and be diligent in activities relating to their training (tutorials, practical work and monitoring of internships integrated into the training). It is good to note that the scholarship attendance conditions are set by the directors and presidents of the establishment, in this case the number of unjustified absences to which students are entitled. Those who were unable to attend a course must contact the education service to justify their absence.
- Submit all homework scheduled during the academic year.
- Take end-of-semester exams and competitions corresponding to their studies.
According to article D. 821–1 of the Education Code, non-compliance with one of these duties may result in the loss of the higher education grant based on social criteria. THE Crous can even go so far as to ask the student concerned to repay the sums unduly received.

How does the Crous check attendance?
Maintaining financial aid based on social criteria is subject to conditions of progress, attendance at exams and attendance at classes. For these last two points, the controls are not carried out directly by the Crous. In fact, they are entrusted to school heads, school directors or university presidents. Thanks to their cooperation, documents relating to each student’s attendance are regularly updated. The list of absent students is sent to the Crous services. The file also includes attendance at exams at the end of each semester, with proof of absence if necessary. Thus, two attendance checks are carried out during the academic year, i.e. one check per semester.
What does the attendance check for scholarship students consist of?
The training establishment is primarily responsible for deciding whether or not students respect their attendance duties. Once the attendance check has been carried out, a list of non-attending students is sent to the Regional Center for University and School Work. The file must include proof of absence. The Crous services will then contact each student who has not sent the required documents to request them.
If the supporting documents are not sent within the set deadlines, the higher education scholarship based on social criteria awarded by the Crous is suspended. The managers then follow up with the student concerned to request supporting documents. If no response or explanation is obtained from the latter, an order for repayment of the scholarship is issued. The student will then be forced to repay part or all of the sums unduly received. This is also the case if he does not take the exams which take place at the end of the second semester.
It should be noted that if the student provides the Crous with medical supporting documents, it is important to ensure that they are dated less than one month ago. This period takes effect from the first day of absence in the event of a prolonged interruption of studies.

After how many absences is the scholarship withdrawn?
According to the latest reports, if students are more active and present at the start of the school year, the lecture halls are gradually emptying from the month of November. This is a scourge that occurs every year in all universities in France. However, not attending lectures, tutorials or practical work is punishable by Crous sanctions. Students must not exceed the number of absences authorized per subject, which is set at two. They are also required to be present for exams at the end of each term. The higher education grant based on social criteria may be suspended if these scholarship attendance conditions are not respected. The student concerned may even be subject to a repayment order.
Good to know: the sanctions linked to the repayment of sums unduly received do not apply if the person obtains a attendance exemption of the stock market. This educational arrangement is aimed at sick or disabled students. It also concerns students with serious reasons (high-level athletes, students with families or engaged in working life, etc.).
