The Crous scholarship is financial aid granted to disadvantaged students. In what case can there be a review of the Crous scholarship?

Before getting to the heart of the matter, it is good to note that the request for Crous purse must be carried out through the DES or Student Social File. It must be sent within the deadlines defined by the Crous. The amount of financial aid awarded to students varies depending on the family’s resources. It thus depends on their level, ranging from 0 to 7. The final amount is calculated according to three main criteria, namely:

  • The composition of the household, namely the number of tax dependents for the student’s parent(s);
  • The distance separating the place of study and the student’s place of residence;
  • The resources of the student’s family at N-2.

The two-year gap which concerns the last point above may pose a problem in the event that family income has fallen suddenly. Indeed, many households have encountered financial problems following the current health crisis. Thus, a review of the Crous scholarship during the year is sometimes possible to help students in precarious situations. However, this is an exceptional approach and the situations taken into account by the Crous are as follows:

  • Parental over-indebtedness;
  • Separation or divorce of parents;
  • Death or retirement of one parent;
  • Filing for bankruptcy or bankruptcy of the family business;
  • Unemployment or illness of a parent for three months;
  • Reduction in working hours or furloughing of a parent.

It is also possible to request a review of the Crous grant if the reduction in family resources is inevitable. It may, for example, be due to a natural disaster or a similar exceptional situation. To check if the student can benefit from the revision of their scholarship, it is recommended to contact a Crous social worker. To contest the review of the Crous scholarship, the first step is to contact a Crous social worker. He will guide the student on the steps to follow. Regardless of the solution adopted, supporting documents should be prepared in advance to explain the student’s current situation.
